Let’s face it. Explainer videos are not easy to make, and good explainer videos take time and money to produce. And while having a professional-quality explainer video on your landing page or YouTube channel will help viewers better understand your business’s core purpose, it may not be feasible for you to pump out 4-5 animated explainer videos every month. Here is a quick hack that will help you get the word out about your explainer video and your product or service that is both economical and relatively easy. Expert interviews are a great way to fill in the gaps where your explainer video left off. Besides answering any questions about how your product or service works, an expert interview has the added benefit of exposing you to a different audience — your interviewee’s fans. Besides, recording and publishing expert interviews is a great way to create engaging content and drive traffic to your website.

How to Easily Record and Publish an Expert Interview

Many people record video interviews with Skype, which is fine for interviewing with one individual. But to interview multiple people at the same time, Google Plus Hangouts is one of the most reliable free services you can use. All you have to do is make an “unlisted Hangout on Air” and start inviting expert guests. Once you and your guests are connected, click “Broadcast” to begin recording.  As long as your Hangout on Air is “unlisted,” it will not be open or viewable to the general public. When the recording is over, YouTube will take about half-an-hour to archive the recorded video to your Video Manager. Once your video recording shows up, you can download it in MP4 format from YouTube to edit it with a software of your choice and upload it to YouTube. Here is a step-by-step tutorial of how to record and publish an expert interview to YouTube using Google Hangouts on Air.

Step 1: Open a Google Hangout.

Go to your Google Plus page. It is the same page that is connected to your YouTube channel. Hover your pointer over the “Google+ Page” in the upper right hand corner of your browser. Choose “Hangouts” from the drop down menu.

Step 2: Begin recording.

You will see options on the new screen that opens. Next, click on the option “Start a Hangout on Air.” Again, this will open up a small window. Give your Hangout a name and short description. You can then choose to broadcast live or at a specified future time. Your next step is to change the default “Audience” to “Public” so you can add yourself. Then, click “share.”

Step 3: Invite guests.

Next, hit the “Start” button. Now you can either invite other guests into the “room” or create a special link to the in-progress interview, and this link can be shared via email. The recipients will have to click on the URL in order to join you. This way they can get into the Hangout directly. Once everyone has joined the Hangout you can click “Start Broadcast.”

Step 4: Download the video in MP4 format.

After the interview is complete, click on “Stop Broadcast” and go to your YouTube channel. You need to wait at least half-an-hour for the video to show up in the Video Manager. It actually depends upon how long the interview was; the longer the interview, the larger the video file size. YouTube takes longer to process larger videos. Once the video shows up, you can download it in MP4 format and edit it with any app. You can also publish it now if it doesn’t require any editing. That is it! You are done. Recording and publishing interviews or videos with Google Hangouts is easy, fun and effective — and using these videos can bring traffic and business to your website.
